Conditioning A Brand New Spa

If you have a new spa...don't use the Carefree Spa products for the first 30 days. Use chlorine per the manufacturer's recommendations for the first 30 days.

Here's why.

New spas usually have manufacturing residues of silicon, Teflon, waxes and other chemicals that slowly wash out and cause cloudy water. Chlorine will bleach these residues and keep the water clear during this time.

What You Need to Do...

The manufacturer will provide instructions or the spa vendor will tell you the concentration of chlorine you need to condition your new spa. Then simply use the handy chart below to figure out how much liquid laundry bleach (5-6% sodium hypochlorite) you should add to your spa to get the concentration recommended by the manufacturer.

At the end of the 30 days, purge your spa with Citri-Clean, drain the spa, refill and add a bottle of Naturel Spa to enjoy clear, clean, odorless water for up to two months.

How Much Chlorine Do I Need to Add?

(Note: The amount of liquid laundry bleach you should add to get the correct concentration is for each 100 gallons. So if you have a 500 gallon spa, you'll need to multiply the amount of bleach shown below by five to get the correct concentration.)

To get this concentration of chlorine
Add this much liquid laundry bleach
(for every 100 gallons of water)
10 ppm (parts per million) 3 fl oz (or 6 Tablespoons)
20 ppm 3/4 cup
40 ppm 1 1/2 cups
80 ppm 2 7/8 cups
100 ppm 3 5/8 cups
